Both ferret enthusiasts, Joe and Scott thought it would be fun to sell ferret supplies on the side. Little did they know, it would turn into a "real company". The Ferret Store kept growing and growing, and by the year 2000, it was a multi-million dollar company employing over 40 people. The Ferret Store spread out into other pet supply businesses such as Neeps Wholesale Pet Supplies, ActiveK9, Rabbit Central, and more. All of the pet supply sites were on the Yahoo! Small Business platform. In 2000, Joe Palko successfully spun off the Neeps, Inc. web team and design team into "Solid Cactus". A company that would help other small companies develop and promote their websites and bring their bricks and mortar businesses into the e-commerce age. Scott continued to run the pet supply companies until 2005, when he also joined Solid Cactus. On May 1, 2007 - All of Neeps, Inc. pet supply companies sold to Doctors Foster & Smith. Doctors Foster & Smith are the largest mail order pet supply retailer in the United States. The legacy of The Ferret Store can still be seen at Doctors Foster & Smith's website. It is important to note that Doctors Foster & Smith only acquired the pet supply division of Neeps, Inc. and Neeps, Inc. still exists today as an independent company with a focus is on lawn and garden supplies. Solid Cactus focused on RTML, a propriatary programming language that is used to build and enhance Yahoo! Stores (the e-commerce store platform located inside of Yahoo! Small Business). Solid Cactus quickly became one of the most skilled programming firms in RTML. Today, Solid Cactus employs over 100 employees with 20 programmers who are just dedicated to RTML programming.
